Manchester United menyerah 1-2 dari Fenerbahce pada laga Grup A di Stadion Sukru Saracoglu, Istanbul. Gol Setan Merah dicetak Wayne Rooney pada menit ke-89, sementara lesakan Fenerbahce dicetak Moussa Sow (2') dan Jeremain Lens (59').

Adapun Inter Milan harus tersungkur 1-2 dari Southampton di St Mary's Stadium, Southampton. Pada laga tersebut, La Beneamata sebenarnya sempat unggul lebih dahulu melalui Mauro Icardi (33'). Namun, The Saints bangkit pada babak kedua melalui gol Virgil van Dijk (64') dan gol bunuh diri Yuto Nagatomo (70'). 

Sementara itu, Athletic Bilbao menang 5-3 atas KRC Genk pada laga Grup F di Stadion San Mames, Bilbao. Aritz Aduriz memborong seluruh gol tuan rumah sekaligus mencatatkan namanya sebagai pemain pertama yang mencetak lima gol dalam satu laga Liga Europa.
